In late June, more than 700 people gathered in Rochester, New York for the 2019 Light and Sound Interactive (LSI) conference where innovators such as Index AR Solutions demonstrated how they are pushing the edge of light and sound-based technologies.
Scott Sommers, Senior Vice President at Index AR Solutions, took the LSI stage with Dr. John J. Simmins, Associate Provost for Research and Economic Development at Alfred University. The pair showcased examples of how Index is delivering on the practical promise of AR today, guided by a mission of creating solutions that augment people, not reality.
Sommers and Dr. Simmins were among the 90 session speakers, 70 demonstrators, three keynote speakers and six tracks featured at the LSI conference. Presenters and attendees were also on hand from industry leaders and government organizations such as Facebook, Amazon, the Department of Defense, the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, Microsoft and Magic Leap.
The LSI conference is the latest in a series of events where Index executives have co-presented with Dr. Simmins, who previously served as Technical Executive and augmented reality research lead at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). In 2018, Sommers and Dr. Simmins presented at the EPRI Augmented Reality for Leading Edge Utilities workshop in Mountain View, Calif.
Simmins has also been a featured speaker at several Index AR Solutions Retreats, invitation-only events hosted each year for Index clients and partners to share their AR implementation experiences and best practices in a spirit of collaboration.
The retreats create a valuable forum for Index clients to tell their success stories about how AR and eBook solutions from Index are fundamentally changing the way training, knowledge transfer and everyday work is being done across a variety of industries.
