Index AR Solutions is proud to be featured in two recent issues of T&D World magazine for its role in shaping the next generation of lineworkers through innovative training technology. The September and October 2025 issues spotlighted graduates and students from the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Electric Utility Technology Program, a groundbreaking initiative that leverages Index’s multimodal digital curriculum to prepare future utility professionals.
Training the Next Generation of Lineworkers
In T&D World’s September 2025 Lineworkers Spotlight, DMACC instructor Don Finn and program graduate AJ Bruns shared how the one-year Electric Utility Technology Program equips students with the skills and confidence to enter the power industry workforce. Finn noted that modern training now blends hands-on learning with advanced technologies such as augmented reality (AR), 3D models, and digital simulations to help students visualize equipment and practice procedures safely – a shift made possible through Index AR Solutions’ digital learning tools.
The September issue also featured a Lineworker’s View focus piece on Kaden Kubas, a graduate of the DMACC program who is now a journeyman lineman.
Technology That Transforms Learning
In the October 2025 Electric Utility Operations feature, “Training for a Future Career on the Line,” T&D World highlighted DMACC students Trevor Grefe and Kellen Miller, who credited Index’s AR-enabled eBooks and iPad-based training apps for enhancing their classroom experience. The story described how students use Index-powered materials to explore complex distribution components, such as pad-mount transformers and voltage regulators, in fully interactive 3D environments. Miller explained that these digital tools help students “understand things like transformer and electrical theory that helped to solidify our knowledge of the topics,” while Grefe praised the quality and real-world relevance of the video and book content.
The article also noted that MidAmerican, a utility partner using Index’s software for workforce development, provides students the opportunity to train with the same advanced digital resources used by field professionals.
A Model for Workforce Development
By combining hands-on experience with immersive digital learning, DMACC’s Electric Utility Technology Program exemplifies how Index AR Solutions is helping to close the skilled labor gap in the utility industry. Through multimodal training solutions that integrate AR visualizations, instructional videos and eBook content, Index and its partners are empowering students to “earn while they learn” and enter apprenticeships with stronger foundational knowledge and confidence.
These stories validate what Index team members see every day – that when technology meets practical training, great things happen. Ultimately, the success of the Index, DMACC and MidAmerican partnership – recently showcased at the annual T&D World Live conference – demonstrates how digital learning can truly transform the path to becoming a skilled lineworker.
As utilities and educators nationwide continue to modernize their workforce development programs, Index AR Solutions remains committed to helping them create safer, smarter and more effective ways to train our nation’s most essential workers.
